Duties
and functions of the City Clerk's Office are set forth in state
statutes, the Lakewood Charter, and by ordinance. The Lakewood
Charter states that the City Clerk shall be appointed by the
City Manager. The City Clerk serves as a department director
and performs duties required by law, ordinance, and the City
Manager.
- The
City Clerk's Office serves as a general
information center for Lakewood
citizens and city employees.
The
City Clerk records the official minutes of City Council Meetings.
Copies of these minutes, as well as copies of resolutions and
ordinances, passed by the City Council, are available to the
public. Lakewood's
Municipal Code Book and City Charter are available for reference
as well as for purchase.
- The City
Clerk is the official custodian of the city's public records.
The City Clerk's Office is responsible for the legal retention
of all documents of the city and for the preservation of all
archival documents. All legal publications for local newspapers, and the city's website, www.lakewood.org are prepared in this office. News paper clippings of historical
value to the city are retained in the city archives.
- The City
Clerk's Office serves as a branch office of the Jefferson County
Elections Department for the purpose of registering any Colorado
resident to vote. Municipal elections are conducted by the City Clerk's
Office. Regular municipal elections are held in odd-numbered
years on the first Tuesday in November.
- The City
Clerk's Office is responsible for the issuance of the following
licenses: Liquor, non alcohol Dance Club, Christmas Tree, Amusement Arcade, Adult Entertainment
Business, Massage Parlor, and Pawnbroker. All licensees must
comply with the Lakewood Municipal Code.
- The City
Clerk's Office is responsible for the issuance of the following
permits: Oversize Moving, Parade, Block Party
and Noise.
